Storing Your Car for the Winter
Posted Oct 15 2024Storing your car for the upcoming winter months is always a challenge but it’s super easy and can help have your car ready to go when spring rolls around.
Many of us store the car in a garage without heat or under a cover next to the house. Wherever and however, we recommend these few things to help ensure your car has a nice repair free hibernation period!
Most importantly change your oil. This gives you a chance to look at your oil to inspect it and see that there are no problems from all your cars and coffee or cruising nights.
We recommend a flush and fill of your radiator with fresh antifreeze. Doing this guarantees that you have fresh antifreeze without water that could possibly freeze in cold weather and possibly damage your radiator.
Adding an additive to your gas tank will help prevent your fuel from causing rust, corrosion, deteriorating and gumming up the fuel lines. It takes a minute to do and can save thousands in unnecessary repairs.
Plug your cars battery into a tender. This will help keep the battery charged while the car is sleeping. A tender is different from a charger as it works on a cycle to keep the battery at optimum volts.
Park your car on wheel castors to help prevent your tires from flat spots. This is a great product along with inflating your tire pressures a few extra pounds to help keep the tires round. The reason a tire gets flat is from sitting on a flat surface for extended periods of time.
Covering your car is a good option as well as limiting the amount of dust the car will accumulate during hibernation; however, we all know that the first thing we will do when spring comes is detail the car to have it ready for cruising!
These are just a few of the basics to keeping your car comfortable for the winter months until its time to roll off the cover, unplug the tender get er’ out of the garage, turn the key and start enjoying the upcoming warmer weather!
